As your site grows you will get to the point where it's difficult for your readers/surfers/customers to find their way around your site - purely because there are too many pages.
At this point, you wont want a link to EVERY page to show in the navigation all the time.
Take this site for example.
When you are in the Glossary section of this site you see Glossary related pages - and only one Tutorial related page - all other Tutorial related pages are hidden to make reading the navigation easier.
But if you click on the Tutorial link, the navigation shows all of the Tutorial related pages and only shows one Glossary related link - the one to the main Glossary page.
